Today in History on September 10: Important Events, Current Affairs, GK and MCQs

September 10 is a highly useful date for Indian history, defence, international relations, science and current-affairs preparation. The most important Indian political personality connected with this date is Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, born on September 10, 1887. A freedom fighter, lawyer and administrator, Pant served as Premier and later Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and subsequently as the Union Home Minister from 1955 until his death in 1961. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1957.

September 10 is also one of the most powerful dates in India's military history. On September 10, 1965, during the Battle of Asal Uttar in the Khem Karan sector, Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid of 4 Grenadiers faced a major Pakistani armoured assault. Using a jeep-mounted recoilless gun under intense fire, he destroyed enemy Patton tanks and continued fighting until he was mortally wounded. His exceptional courage earned him India's highest wartime gallantry decoration, the Param Vir Chakra, posthumously.

In world history, the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye was signed on September 10, 1919 between the Allied and Associated Powers and Austria after World War I. Much later, on September 10, 2002, Switzerland became the 190th Member State of the United Nations after a referendum in which Swiss voters approved UN membership.

September 10 is equally important in modern science. On September 10, 2008, scientists at CERN successfully circulated the first proton beams around the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a 27-kilometre particle accelerator near Geneva. The milestone marked the start-up of the world's most powerful particle accelerator and prepared the way for later high-energy collisions and discoveries.

For 10.09.2026 current affairs, the world is observing World Suicide Prevention Day under the final year of the 2024–2026 theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, with the call to action “Start the Conversation.” In India, major scheduled updates include the launch of DILRMP 3.0 with an anticipated outlay of ₹565.50 crore, a national consultation with farmer leaders on a stricter new Seed law, and the inauguration of a ₹156-crore MSME Technology Centre at Devanahalli, Bengaluru. Students should also revise the latest Cabinet approval of ₹10,021 crore for five railway multitracking projects across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
